No sooner had we landed the West of England when a merger took
place with the Regency and we were briefed on creating a new corporate
identity and new press campaign for the joint company, which ran
for about a year. Then horror of horrors. They upped sticks and
moved to another agency, which may have had something to do with
a change of Marketing Director-well that's our story and we are
sticking to it.
However, in the short time of handling the business we soon realized
that the advertising of rates is a great test on an agency's creative
abilities [could this be why so many large agencies refrain from
handling this side of the business?]. There is no doubt that the
rates sales message should never be obscured by a far too clever
creative idea. Of course the main brand advertising on the box is
a different proposition and there are some very fine commercials
in this category where the main sales message is portrayed very
creatively.
